If fear and uncertainty have left you paralysed in pursuit of your life-changing move, maybe it’s time you called in a sea and tree change coach. Yes, they are out there!

As Australians contemplate a city-country lifestyle swap in ever-increasing numbers, the Sea and Tree Change trend is also creating a marketplace for new service industries. For example, if the daunting prospect of your big move becomes all too much to cope with, it is now possible to turn to your very own Sea and Tree Change coach to help make your dream a reality.
Live the Dream spoke to one leading Sea and Tree Change coach, Caroline Cameron (CC) of ‘Possibility to Reality’, to fi nd out what this emerging breed of service providers can off er you in helping to overcome the seemingly insurmountable challenges a life-changing move can present.

Q. What are some of the main reasons your clients want to make a Sea/Tree Change?

CC: Most of my clients come to me with a belief that life could be more fulfilling, and a strong awareness of what they aren’t enjoying about their current situation. Many have a strong desire to make signifi cant changes both in what they are doing (career), and where and how they are living (lifestyle). Many are looking to build close and meaningful relationships and have the opportunity to pursue a passion that can best be found in a rural or coastal location. The one motivation my clients all have in common is simply a desire for increased happiness.
It often starts as an idea that develops over time as satisfaction with your current lifestyle decreases. You begin to imagine how life could be if you weren’t stuck in endless traffi c for hours each week, and if you could avoid the long hours, offi ce politics and boring meetings. It is hard to rarely see your family and friends, with no time to do the things you love. You look for more and more evidence to prove to yourself that you can’t go on like this.

The idea of a Sea/Tree Change starts to take shape – you fi nd yourself imagining ‘what if…’ and researching a range of appealing options. You may start to ‘fl oat the idea’ with those you are close to and if it gains support, you begin to believe that it may be possible. However, this is where fear of change starts to grip and many people stop at this point, leaving a Sea/Tree Change as just a dream.

Q. Why do they seek assistance from someone like you?

CC: Changing your lifestyle and career is a big undertaking that requires strong, empowering beliefs and a structured approach to create your ideal life. A skilled and experienced coach can act as a torch and a safety net to ensure you have all the information, beliefs and strategies you need to make the change successfully. I ask you the questions you may not have thought to ask yourself and help you gain clarity about what you want to achieve, why you want it and how and when you are going to do it.
Family, friends and colleagues all have a vested emotional interest in your life and will have their own views and opinions about what you should do. An experienced Sea/ Tree Change coach brings the objectivity, strategies and support you need to help convert your dream into a reality.

Q. Has the number of people interested in making a change like this increased in recent years?

CC: Absolutely – there are many more people now seeking to move away from metropolitan lifestyles to coastal or rural communities. The main reasons for this include:
1) The pace of life in our cities is accelerating; increasing pressure and demands on our time, costs (housing, food etc.), redundancy and economic doom and gloom, combined with decreasing health, well-being and quality of life are all key contributors.
2) Advances in technology over the last couple of years have increased the options and made it easier for people to make a Sea or Tree Change. Teleworking, the limitless opportunities for online businesses that can be run from anywhere, and rapid take-up and reliability of wireless and mobile devices mean that we no longer need to be chained to our desks in the big cities.
3) Retention of skilled and experienced staff has become a huge challenge and many companies are now open to the………..
